SWATI (Society for Women's Action and Training Initiatives) is a non-profit organization that works for the socio-economic empowerment of women in the state of Gujarat, India. SWATI's mission is to promote the human rights of women and the marginalized; influence formulation and implementation of gender just policies; and build an enabling environment for the achievement of the democratic rights of all. SWATI is currently recruiting young professionals with 1- 4 years of experience to join an exciting project being implemented in Patan District of Gujarat.
Location: Ahmedabad, Gujarat Position Offered: Research and Documentation Coordinator About the Project: Over the past two decades a number of models involving hospital based crisis intervention centres have been developed across the world, also in India. However most of these are in urban areas. Women from rural areas where reported prevalence of domestic violence is higher than that in the urban areas (NFHS -3) have limited access to such resources. Based on its extensive experience of working with women to empower them to escape violence, Society for Women's Action and Training Initiatives (SWATI) initiated an intervention research project titled 'Making Rural Health Care Delivery System Responsive to Violence against Women'. The project started in 2016 and is being implemented at three locales (public sector hospitals) in District Patan, from the Western Indian state of Gujarat. It builds on the experiences of an earlier intervention carried over three years (July 2012 - December 2015) at one of the locales where the present project is being implemented. Goals of the project are to: 1. Consolidate and demonstrate an evidence based model of setting up a Crisis intervention and support cell, servicing Radhanpur Sami and Santalpur blocks in Patan district as a rural health system response model to survivors of Domestic violence. 2. Apply the experience to upscale the model through orientation and capacity building of the frontline medical staff and grassroots health care providers in two additional civil hospitals (Dharpur and Siddhpur) of Patan district in Gujarat to enable women to get relief and remedial support to prevent domestic violence. Essential skills required: • Masters/Bachelor's degree in social work, gender studies or any other discipline relevant to the position. • Conceptual understanding and writing around Health/VaW issues . Experience of research in public health related issues and knowledge of research methods is essential. • Ability to plan work effectively, deliver against plans. • Excellent written communication & documentation skills • Sound interpersonal & relationship management skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders & partners involved in the project. • Willingness to travel.
